Embossing & Debossing
Shaping the material itself so an element sits above or below the surrounding surface.
About embossing & debossing
Embossing presses a design up out of the stock; debossing presses it down into it. Neither adds ink or coating — the effect comes entirely from the shape the material is given, which is why it survives as long as the piece does.
The result is most legible under angled light and under the hand, so it is normally reserved for a single deliberate element such as a mark or a title, and is often combined with printed or foiled detail on the same piece.
Where it is typically used
- Logos on business cards and letterheads
- Covers for reports and menus
- Certificates and formal documents
- Rigid boxes and packaging
- Presentation folders
These are common uses of the method rather than a fixed list. Materials, sizes and finishing options vary from job to job — tell us what you have in mind and we will confirm what suits it.
