Sublimation
Dye carried into the surface of a polyester or coated item under heat, rather than laid on top of it.
About sublimation
In sublimation, dye is printed to a transfer sheet and then turned directly from solid to gas under heat and pressure, entering the surface of the receiving item as it goes.
The colour ends up inside the substrate rather than as a film above it, so a printed garment keeps the hand and drape of the plain one and there is no edge to the print to peel or crack. The trade-off is that the method needs polyester fabric or an item with a compatible coating.
Where it is typically used
- Polyester sportswear and jerseys
- Lanyards and fabric flags
- Coated mugs and drinkware
- Mouse mats and desk items
- All-over fabric patterns
These are common uses of the method rather than a fixed list. Materials, sizes and finishing options vary from job to job — tell us what you have in mind and we will confirm what suits it.
